Aloe Vera Hair Oil

Stand the mature aloe vera leaf vertically in a cup for 15 minutes to allow the yellow aloin sap to drain out completely. Slice off the bottom ½ inch, discard the sap, and wash the entire leaf under cold water. Pat completely dry with a towel.

Trim off the spiky side edges. Slice off the top flat green skin to expose the clear, jelly-like inner flesh. Cut or spoon out the clear gel into small, uniform cubes.

Place extracted aloe gel cubes into a small, dry saucepan. Pour 1 cup of coconut or olive oil directly over the aloe, ensuring the pieces are submerged.

Place saucepan over low heat and bring to a gentle simmer. As the water inside the aloe boils off, the oil will bubble actively. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Maintain low heat for 20 to 30 minutes.

Watch the pan closely: when active bubbling stops entirely and the pan goes quiet, all water has evaporated. The aloe pieces will be shriveled, crisp, and translucent-brown. Remove from heat immediately and cool to room temperature.

Pour the cooled oil through a double layer of cheesecloth or fine-mesh strainer into a clean, bone-dry glass jar or dropper bottle. Seal tightly.
